For New Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Film, Canadian Strongman to Pick up 20 Women at Once – Literally – on Saturday, June 18

ORLANDO, Fla. (June 15, 2011) – Talk about back-breaking work – on Saturday, June 18, Canadian strongman Rev. Dr. Kevin Fast will attempt to lift a platform holding approximately 20 women, using just his back and his legs.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. local time at Victoria Park in Cobourg, Ontario, Fast’s hometown. Fast has a custom-built platform that measures 8 ft x 3 ft. He’ll start by lifting five people, then 10, then 15 and will finish by hoisting 20 women.

“I’ll keep piling people on until it can’t fit anymore, or I can’t lift anymore!” said Fast. He estimates his maximum lift will be a total of 1,800 to 2,000 pounds.

The attempt will be the latest in a long line of Fast’s super-human feats of strength to be chronicled by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! The event is a kickoff to the launch of Ripley’s new book, called Strikingly True – Ripley’s annual collection of amazing facts, feats and stories from around the world. The book goes on sale September 13, 2011.

Fast, the pastor of a small church in Cobourg, was discovered by Ripley’s in 1999. Soon after, he was pulling fire trucks on an episode of the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! TV show.

Since then, Fast, 48, has lifted, pulled and tugged his way to a nearly a dozen strength records. He has arm-wrestled a fire truck, dragged tractor-trailers loaded with cars, pulled an entire house, lifted 1,100 pounds and pulled a C-17 military transport plane.

In addition to his platform lift, Fast will attempt another first on Saturday – a tandem truck-pull with his 18 year old son, Jacob. The pair will pull two large fire trucks; a first for what is likely the world’s strongest father-son duo.

“Kevin is an unbelievable guy—part Hercules, part saint. He is a tribute to his church and the entire town of Cobourg,” said Edward Meyer, Ripley’s VP of Exhibits and Archives. “He’s definitely the strongest man Ripley’s has ever had the honor of documenting. Using film footage from these two stunts with some previous footage we already have, we plan to create an exciting little movie to show in all our museums around the world of Canada’s strongest man—and his amazing son Jacob too.”
