Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Jackson Hole to Exhibit the World’s Most Unusual Art

JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. (April 30, 2010) – The craziest and most unusual art this town has ever seen will soon be on display at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum.

New Off-the-Wall Gallery features non-mainstream art made from laundry lint, toilet paper, old toys, recycled items and much more!

The new permanent gallery, opening May 7, will erase all doubts that it has to be traditional to be good art! Here’s a peek at what you will see:

  • Fancy Dancer is a half life- size sculpture depicting a proud Indian warrior-dancer from the Northern Plains – made entirely from paper.
  • An octopus sculpture made from one mile of recycled electric wire.
  • Spider made from knife blades and scissors confiscated by a TSA agent at an airport.
  • “Catfish School” is a colorful and realistic portrait made entirely out of laundry lint. No paint or dies were used, just the lint as it came out of the dryer!
  • A credenza elaborately decorated with soda pop bottle caps, created to house a TV set.
  • Typewriter Cricket is a whimsical, yet realistic, sculpture made totally from old typewriter parts!
  • Mail Order Bride is a wedding dress made completely of postage stamps! The stamps were collected from all over the world.
  • Small bird created from junk art – from nuts and bolts to bronze medallions.
  • Toilet Paper Wedding Dress. Made from Charmin, this masterpiece features intricate layers, delicate back loop-hook clasps, as well as a colored paper belt.
  • Tibetan Skull Mask. In the Himalayan Mountains of Tibet, one of the highest honors a man can give his father or mother is to create some utilitarian domestic item from their skull when they die. This elaborately carved skull mask dates from the 1930s and is one of only a handful ever seen in North America.
  • PLUS – many more works of art made from recycled, found, and discarded items.

A visit to the Off-The-Wall Gallery is free with paid admission to Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum, located at 140 N. Cache Street in Jackson Hole. Hours through May 27 are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Summer hours starting May 28 are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
