Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Family Attractions in Baltimore are Now Open

BALTIMORE, Md. (June 7, 2012) – It was literally a mini start to a mega attraction as the newest Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium in the world welcomed media to a sneak peek at its new location in the Light Street Pavilion on Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.

Guests will find hundreds of exhibits and oddities as well as Ripley’s Marvelous Mirror Maze and the 4D Ripley’s Moving Theater

The final exhibit was delivered this morning – a Mini Cooper car covered with one million Swarovski crystals. As the car drove up and stopped in front of the attraction, out popped the driver, Mini Gene Simmons of the popular Mini Kiss band, to the crowds delight!

The two-story, 10,000 square feet Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Baltimore Odditorium features an eye-popping collection of unbelievable exhibits, unusual artwork and amazing artifacts from around the world. There are nine different themed galleries packed with one-of-a-kind exhibits; more than 120 of the exhibits are innovative interactive activities.

  •  A colorful lobby, packed with big, bold and unbelievable exhibits, including a musical stairway to heaven.
  • Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Castle made from 600,000 wooden matchsticks.
  • A massive, 10,000 pound granite ball carved with believe-it-or-not facts about Baltimore – floating on a thin layer of water. It’s called a Kugel Ball and moves so easily that visitors can make it turn just by pushing on it!
  • A nine-foot round, one ton U.S. Lincoln penny, made from more than 10,000 U.S. copper pennies.
  • A special salute to Baltimore’s own sideshow, circus and movie superstar, Johnny Eck!
  • Toothpick City is an entire gallery filled with dozens of skyscrapers and monuments from around the world – consisting of more than 3.5 million wooden matchsticks!
  • In the art gallery, see a portrait of Justin Bieber made from licorice and gummy bears and an amazing, 12-foot by 6-foot tall representation of Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam – made from laundry lint!

Ripley’s Marvelous Mirror Maze features nearly 2,000 square feet of mirrored paths, surprising corners, dead ends and continuous circles! Sound and lighting effects make the experience even more daunting. Unlike mazes of the past, this one offers multiple paths throughout and a unique infinity room. Adventurers can begin at the end and work their way through backward if they wish.

Also open is the 4D Ripley’s Moving Theater in which guests sit down for an adventurous and exciting 3D movie experience, with the addition of movement, sound, wind, rain and snow! Each experience consists of two films – Skate Rate and Snow Ride. Guests literally ride these action-filled movies!
