One Artist’s Trashy Undergarment Art is Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Treasure
ORLANDO, Fla. – (Oct. 8, 2009) – Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, well-known for its unbelievable exhibits, has added something new to its archives – a collection of risqué, provocative undergarments described by their Boston creator as “Trashy Lingerie.”
Ripley’s acquires lingerie art made from used soda cans
Made out of soft drink cans, Ripley has acquired a total of 10 pieces of the lingerie art that look more like they belong in Lady Gaga’s wardrobe than in Ripley’s eclectic collection of oddities. The artist, Ingrid Goldbloom, collected her first cans from a beach trip and developed the idea to weave them together, creating bustiers, garters and under garments that would make any blacksmith blush.
Each piece takes approximately two days to complete. Goldbloom begins by cutting strips of aluminum from soda cans and weaving them together, finally assembling them based on clothing patterns she traced from real lingerie. The red set of “Trashy Lingerie” – bustier, garter and panties – was made from nearly two dozen soda cans.
Her inspiration comes from memories of hardware stores where her father took her during her childhood. Goldbloom also makes teapots, jewelry, vessels and abstract pieces.
