Weeki Wachee Mermaids Swim to Huge Crowds Again at Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (July 26,2009) – The mermaids from Weeki Wachee Springs State Park in Florida packed the house again at Ripley’s Aquarium during their July 24-26 visit. They performed 12 shows over the three days, all to standing-room only crowds.
“They put on a magnificent show and our aquarium guests absolutely loved them,” said Peter MacIntyre, general manager. “The small children especially are mesmorized by the beautiful image of a mermaid.”

Three Weeki Wachee mermaids made the trip this year, only the third time in 62 years the mermaid have left their home waters to perform. Last year’s August shows at Ripley’s Aquarium was the first, and their May appearance at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, Tenn., was their second.
“We love Ripley’s aquariums,” said veteran mermaid Stayce McConnell, who has performed at all three Ripley aquarium events. ”The crowds are always huge and the facilities are beautiful. We hope to make this a regular trip each summer.”
