Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Acquires World’s Largest Collection of the World’s Smallest Micro-Sculptures

ORLANDO,  (July 29, 2012) – Ripley’s Believe It or Not! is now the biggest owner of some the smallest – and most unbelievable – works of art in the world.

Creations are so tiny that they can only be seen with a microscope; artist-creator Willard Wigan to hold media availability at Ripley corporate offices on July 30.

Ripley’s has acquired 97 creations by artist Willard Wigan. Wigan’s sculptures are so tiny that most sit on the head of a pin or in the eye of a needle – and are barely visible with the naked eye. Other owners of his works include Prince Charles, Elton John, Mike Tyson and Simon Cowell.

“In 35 years of working for Ripley’s, I have never seen anything as amazing as Willard’s work,” said Edward Meyer, Ripley’s VP of Exhibits and Archives. “It is truly unbelievable, each piece is more amazing that the previous one. Being able to display so many of his masterpieces in our museums is a dream come true.”

Viewed under a microscope, Wigan’s creations come to life and are certain to amaze anyone who views them; the realistic detail of the Statue of Liberty in the eye of a needle or Homer and Bart Simpson on the head of a pin boggle the mind.

You have to see it to believe it!

Members of the media can see the world’s smallest micro-sculptures for themselves and interview Willard Wigan during a rare media availability on Monday, July 30 from 10 am to 1 pm at Ripley’s corporate headquarters in Orlando.  Microscopes will be available to view the sculptures and images will also be projected onto a big screen monitor.
